Greeting Cards
As Gene and Carol Kent began their journey with an incarcerated son, they soon discovered many inmates have no way to get birthday and Christmas greeting cards to send to their families. Many send their greetings on notebook paper.
American Rehabilitative Ministries in Joplin, MO, provides a variety of greeting cards to prisons around the country. These are not “used” cards. They are name brand greeting cards that might be “last year’s new release,” but they are quality, lovely cards that give inmates a sense of dignity as they send special greetings to their family members.
Cards are available in the following categories: Anniversary, Birthday (adult and child), Friendship, Get Well, Sympathy, Thank You, Wedding, Christmas, Easter, Father’s Day, Graduation, Mother’s Day, Thanksgiving, and Valentine’s Day. There is a $4.00 charge for each 100 cards to cover packaging and postage and the minimum total order is 500 cards.
Contact the chaplain of a prison in your area first to the get exact address where the cards should be sent (usually to the attention of the chaplain), and then go to the web site and place your order at American Rehabilitative Ministries. When on the site, click on Greeting Card Ministry and follow the instructions. Their phone is 417-781-9100.
If you do not have a relationship with a local prison, but would like to donate to the Greeting Card Ministry through Speak Up for Hope, please go to our donation page and we will send cards to a prison where there is a need for these resources.
